Disciplines
From Metapedia
Disciplines are a system of specialized institutions that function to make individuals useful. Michel Foucault explores these institutions in his text Discipline & Punish: The Birth of the Prison.
Although originally used as a method to neutralize danger, the disciplines transformed into a role that worked to increase the utility of individuals in society. As the roles the disciplines played changed, they became deinstitutionalized and their methods of control spread throughout society. These institutions, which include, prisons, workshops, barracks and schools, play key roles in diffusing power through society on micro levels.
